Regular dental visits are important because they can help detect oral and other health problems early on, when it is simpler and more affordable to treat them. Indeed, the dental visits help prevent many oral problems from developing in the first place.

When the patient visits, the dental team at PIH begins with a detailed oral health examination and evaluation using advanced intra-oral cameras and low-dose digital radiography. The dentist discusses the evaluation with the patient and, where needed, explains treatment options available. The dental department has extensive experience in cosmetic dentistry aimed at achieving a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. A thorough assessment of the present dental structure is carried out before work begins on your teeth.

Dental Procedures

Regular dental exams are an important part of preventive health care. During a dental exam, the dentist or hygienist will check and record the dental condition of your teeth for cavities and gum disease and give necessary medical advice depending on the dental condition. The dentist or hygienist will also evaluate your risk of developing other oral health problems and check your face, neck and mouth for abnormalities. The dentist or hygienist would also discuss your diet and oral hygiene habits and might demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques. Other topics for discussion might include lifestyle factors that can affect oral health and possible cosmetic improvements to your teeth A dental exam may be followed dental X-rays (Radiographs) or other diagnostic procedures, which will be at an additional cost (chargeable as per the PIH price list).

Dental Exam for Children

Regular dental exams are an important part of preventive health care. During a dental exam for children, the dentist or hygienist will check your child’s teeth and evaluate your child’s risk of tooth decay. The dentist or hygienist would discuss your child’s diet and oral hygiene habits and might demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques. Other topics for discussion might include preventing oral injuries or, for adolescents, the health risks associated with tobacco, substance abuse and oral piercings. Application of various protective measures – such as sealants or fluoride treatments – to reduce the risk of decay, dental X-rays (Radiographs) or other diagnostic procedures are also available at PIH (chargeable as per the PIH price list).

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer screening is an examination performed by a dentist or doctor to look for signs of cancer or precancerous conditions in your mouth. The goal of oral cancer screening is to identify mouth cancer early, when there is a greater chance for a cure. Most dentists perform an examination of your mouth during a routine dental visit to screen for oral cancer. Some dentists may use additional tests to aid in identifying areas of abnormal cells in your mouth. Medical organizations disagree on whether healthy people without risk factors for mouth cancer need oral cancer screening. No single oral exam or oral cancer screening test is proved to reduce the risk of dying of oral cancer. Still, you and your dentist may decide that an oral exam or a special test is right for you based on your risk factors.

Wisdom Tooth extraction

Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth — the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of your mouth on the top and bottom. If a wisdom tooth doesn’t have room to grow (impacted wisdom tooth), resulting in pain, infection or other dental problems, you’ll likely need to have it pulled. Wisdom tooth extraction may be done by a dentist or an oral surgeon. Some dentists and oral surgeons recommend wisdom tooth extraction even if impacted teeth aren’t causing problems, as a preventive measure against potential future problems.
