GLOBE-ATHON 2024
Globe-athon is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness to support women battling cancer. On September 29th, 2024, the public and staff members of Pacific International Hospital came together for an early morning walk as part of the event “Walk with us to fight women’s cancer”. Together, we united in walking, raising awareness, and demonstrating unity to make a significant impact in the fight against women’s cancer. By joining forces, we strive to bring about positive change and provide support to those affected by this disease.

We recently hosted a successful free cancer screening camp at our 3 Mile location, attracting 75 participants committed to prioritizing their health. Early detection is crucial in the fight against cancer, and we provide our community with access to essential health services. Pacific International Hospital Management Training Program
We proudly announce the successful completion of our Hospital Management Training Program, a significant step in nurturing future healthcare management professionals. In 2024, over 100 applicants expressed interest, and after a rigorous selection process, nine promising individuals were selected for an intensive training experience. The program included lectures from PIH departmental heads and hands-on training across various hospital departments. Congratulations to our graduates, and we look forward to their contributions in their new roles!
A Powerful Partnership: Cataract Outreach Initiative
We are proud to announce our collaboration with the Laila Foundation and Tabubil Hospital to provide vital cataract outreach services! Over four days, we examined 150 patients, identifying over 100 in need of cataract surgery and other treatments. Dr. Amyna Sultan, Director of Laila Foundation, expressed her commitment to tackling the backlog of cataracts in the region. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of many.

New Retinal Specialist Joins PIH: Welcoming Dr. Muhammad Imran
Pacific International Hospital proudly announced the arrival of Dr. Muhammad Imran, a highly skilled Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon. With over nine years of experience in treating complex eye conditions, Dr. Imran enhances our ability to provide specialized retinal care locally. His expertise allows residents to access critical treatments for conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachment without the need for international travel, significantly improving eye care services in the country.
Spreading Joy and Cheer: Our Staff Christmas Celebration
Our Pacific International Hospital family came together to celebrate the festive season at our staff Christmas party, enjoying a wonderful opportunity to bond outside of the hospital and clinics, creating lasting memories and strengthening our team spirit. World Diabetes Day 2024
In 2024, Pacific International Hospital marked World Diabetes Day by offering free Blood Sugar Tests at our Waigani Central and Rainbow, Gerehu medical centres. This initiative aimed to empower individuals to take charge of their health while promoting awareness about diabetes prevention and control. We are proud to contribute to the community’s well-being through this impactful event.
Spreading Awareness, Inspiring Action
Our dedicated oncologist, Dr. Suresh Raghunath, recently delivered an insightful health talk at the National Banking Corporation, shedding light on vital topics like lung and prostate cancer awareness. With a focus on education and awareness, Dr. Raghunath’s engaging presentation empowered attendees to take proactive steps towards a healthier future.
Cataract Surgery Outreach at Kapuna Hospital – Laila Foundation
A collaborative effort led by the Laila Foundation, Pacific International Hospital, and the National Department of Health, a cataract surgery outreach at Kapuna Hospital in the Gulf province restored sight for 87 individuals. The dedicated Laila-PIH-NDOH Eye Team overcame challenges, providing life-changing surgeries and essential resources. Dr. Valerie Archer’s urgent appeal initiated this transformative program, highlighting the power of public-private partnerships in delivering specialized healthcare under resource constraints. The success of the initiative, held from December 1st to 6th, 2023, underscores the commitment to addressing backlogs in rural PNG and extending crucial eye care services.

Pacific International Hospital PIH) in association with Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) participated in the 17th PNG Resources and Energy Investment Conference held last week at the Sydney International Convention Centre, Sydney, Australia.
2023 Globe-athon
We are thrilled to share the remarkable success of Globe-athon 2023. Our community came together bright and early to walk hand in hand towards ending women’s cancer. This year’s Globe-athon was particularly meaningful as it marked our first gathering after the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The enthusiasm, energy and attendance of 1000+ we witnessed this year demonstrated the resilience to stand together, raise awareness, support of those affected, and working together to make a lasting impact.
Breast Cancer Awareness Day 2023
In honour of World Breast Cancer Awareness Day, our esteemed Oncologist (Cancer Specialist), Dr. Suresh Raghunath, took the stage on October 19th at Telikom PNG Limited. With 96 enthusiastic female staff members in attendance, the session became a hub of questions, insights, and invaluable information. Dr. Suresh’s informative talk shed light on the critical importance of early detection and breast cancer awareness. As we reflect on this enlightening event, let’s keep our commitment strong – early detection saves lives.
World Sight Day
In celebration of World Sight Day, we embarked on a mission to promote better eye health. We opened our doors at our Medical Center in Deloitte Haus, welcoming employees from various corporate entities in the Central Business District (CBD) for complimentary eye check-ups. The response from our community has been truly heart-warming, and the support we’ve received has been nothing short of inspiring. We also extended our commitment to the public, offering free eye check-ups for a week at our Eye Care centers located at Vision City and the Waterfront.
